Leadership and Awareness: Promoting Sustainability Week

By Estefanía Darás, Coordinator of the Eco Club in Secondary and Sixth Form at Caxton College in Valencia

In line with our purpose of leading the way towards a better world, the new edition of this celebration has served to foster awareness and active participation in sustainability issues among our students.

Our recent Sustainability Week showcased the profound commitment of our Secondary and Sixth Form students to the environment. Led by the Eco Club, the students spearheaded initiatives that combined practical waste management with theoretical reflection.

The event kicked off with "Recycling Fridays", where our Eco Warriors supervised collection points in classrooms and offices to ensure impeccable resource management. Furthermore, the club delivered technical awareness sessions on waste traceability, providing clear guidelines to make institutional recycling as rigorous and effective as possible.

A key highlight was the Creative Poster Workshop, where each year group tackled a specific environmental challenge:

  • Year 7: Conscious Fashion vs. Fast Fashion.
  • Year 8: Protection of Ecosystems and Biodiversity.
  • Year 9: Reducing Food Waste.
  • Year 10: Sustainable Cities and Smart Mobility.
  • Year 11: Deep dive into the "3Rs": reduce, reuse and recycle.
  • Year 12: Digital Sustainability and technological carbon footprints.
  • Year 13: Circular Economy and waste-free product design.

Following these sessions, Eco Club members gathered feedback from their peers to formalise strategic proposals aimed at implementing tangible ecological solutions within the school.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the entire school community for their exceptional participation. The warm reception of the talks and the high quality of the posters demonstrate that, together, we are moving towards a more responsible future.
