Building Confidence in English, One Lesson at a Time

By Lucía Guillart, English Camp teacher at Caxton College in Puçol

In this summer’s English Camp, I have the pleasure of teaching a wonderful Primary 6 class full of energy, creativity, and enthusiasm. From the very beginning, I noticed how much they enjoy interactive activities — especially role-play games and guessing games — so I make sure to include them in my lessons as often as possible. These types of activities not only make learning English more enjoyable, but also encourage all students to participate and feel more confident using the language in a natural, meaningful way.

One of my main priorities in the classroom is creating a safe environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and trying their best. I often remind them that mistakes are not something to be afraid of — they are a necessary part of learning. Sharing this message has helped many of them become more open to participating and more aware of how much English they really know.

To support their wellbeing, I’ve introduced a short daily yoga routine at the end of each day. The students look forward to this quiet time to unwind, reflect, and reset before going home after each day. Many of them have already told me how much they enjoy this routine and how it helps them feel more relaxed.

I’m really enjoying my time with this group, and I’m looking forward to the weeks ahead. It’s a joy to watch them grow in confidence, not only in their English skills, but also in the way they approach challenges and support one another. I can’t wait to see what we’ll continue to achieve together.
