Communication as a Cornerstone of the Educational Community

By Fina Muñoz, mother of a Year 2 pupil

The Importance of Communication

I definitely believe that communication between the school and families is fundamental. In our particular case, both my husband and I have demanding work schedules, so we deeply value the extensive and constant communication the school offers us. This close information exchange brings us peace of mind, facilitates our daily organisation, and allows us to remain fully involved in our son's educational process.

Fluid Communication with the School

From my experience, the school's communication with families has always been clear, timely, and very effective. I especially appreciate the way we are informed about educational initiatives, school activities, and learning opportunities for both the children and the parents. This anticipation of our needs as families, especially at the different stages of school development, demonstrates great sensitivity and planning on the part of the centre.

As a first-time mother of a 6-year-old, it's natural to want to be as informed as possible. In that sense, tools like the Dojo app have allowed me to maintain direct and fluid communication with the teachers, which has been a great help both for resolving concerns and arranging in-person meetings. Furthermore, whenever we've needed to express our opinions or raise a query, we've felt heard and attended to with respect and speed.

Variety of Channels

I usually use email and, in urgent situations, the telephone. I also follow the school's social media and publications with interest, as they allow me to find out about activities we haven't been able to attend for a variety of reasons. The range of educational and creative proposals is truly extensive and interesting, and I'm always keen to consider the option of my son participating in some of them.

I believe the school has a variety of consolidated channels of communication for each area. Email is very efficient and allows direct contact with different departments, with very quick response times. Telephone attention is equally effective, including specific departments like the clinic or co-curricular activities. In addition, the use of WhatsApp with real-time location to follow the co-curricular routes has been especially useful for our day-to-day family organisation.

Attention and Response

My perception is very positive in this regard. On the occasions when we've needed to make a request or resolve a concern, the school's response has been agile and effective. Solutions have been offered promptly, and there has always been a willingness to adapt within the school's possibilities, understanding that each individual request is valued within the context of a broad and diverse educational community.

What My Family Values Most

The most notable aspect, without a doubt, is the closeness and support that the teaching team conveys. In these four years of schooling, we have always perceived a team atmosphere and happy faces, which has a positive impact on the children. When a child is excited about going to school every day, it speaks volumes about the environment. As parents, that joy also fills us with confidence and peace of mind.

Regarding improvements, I would simply encourage the school never to lose sight of the individual focus on each child and teenager. Continuing to support them in their education with that sensitivity whilst keeping a smile on their faces is the greatest value an educational institution can offer. I only hope that essence always remains.

Our Recommendation to a Family Looking for a School

I would tell them that one of the school's great strengths is its ability to maintain open, clear, and effective communication with families. There's a true dedication to supporting families, where both our concerns and our suggestions are taken into account. This close relationship helps to create a cohesive educational community committed to the holistic development of students.
