Leading the Way: Our Purpose in Action

By Marta Gil, Principal of Caxton College in Puçol, Valencia

At Caxton College, our purpose has always been clear: to shape happy, honest, and well-rounded individuals. We want our students not only to excel academically but also to possess the virtues and passion to influence their surroundings, driven by a positive mindset to make things better.

Under the motto ‘Lead the Way’, our daily efforts are based on three fundamental pillars that define the character and educational excellence of the school.

A Firm Commitment to Respect

We believe respect is the engine that drives our school life. Beyond mere politeness, we want our students to experience kindness and mutual support as essential values. We are proud to be a school that celebrates diversity of cultures and beliefs, friendship, companionship, and the understanding of neurodivergence as a strength for learning. Under this premise, our commitment is absolute: to offer a safe space where wellbeing is always a top priority.

Participation and Collaboration

Our students are not mere spectators, but active protagonists in school life. They regularly participate in voluntary work to develop their sense of service and commitment to the educational community and greater society. They take on leadership and support roles with students in lower year groups, promote educational improvement as class reps, and get involved in the organisation of numerous school events. The Student Council plays a significant role, as do the mentors assigned to the form groups of younger peers. This active participation reinforces their self-confidence and their sense of belonging to the Caxton College family.

Interest and Curiosity for Knowledge

We promote learning for the sake of knowing, directing our students' curiosity towards culture and global realities. We advocate for a healthy relationship with the digital world, teaching them that technology is a tool, never a substitute for intellect. We guide our students to be the authors of their own story and not outsource their thinking to algorithms. We emphasise the importance of ethical responsibility for work and opinions, shielding what is most valuable: the capacity for critical and independent analysis.

As Principal, I am proud to see how our staff and our students lead the way every day with integrity, critical thinking, and shared commitment.

We will keep working together so that this purpose continues to make a difference.
