The Power of Volunteering

At Caxton we encourage our students to develop skills and values to become responsible global citizens, to have strong moral principles and to ensure they are well prepared for life beyond school. Volunteering plays a vital role in this process, offering students the opportunity to grow as individuals and give back to society.

Why Volunteer?

Volunteering offers so many benefits, not just to those who are being supported but also to the volunteers themselves. Here are some of the key reasons why volunteering can be a positive experience for students:

  1. Making a Positive Impact
Volunteering allows students to contribute directly to the betterment of others. Whether students are helping with environmental cleanups, organizing school fundraisers, or tutoring peers, their actions make a real difference.
  2. Building Skills and Experience
Volunteering is an excellent way to develop new skills or enhance those students already have. From leadership and teamwork to communication and time management, volunteering offers hands-on experience that can set people apart in future endeavours—including when students are applying for jobs or college applications.
  3. Building Empathy and Understanding
Volunteering allows students to step into the shoes of others and understand their needs and struggles. It encourages empathy, helping a student grow into a more compassionate, thoughtful person.

Volunteer Opportunities

Our students are involved with volunteering in many different ways, both helping around school as well as at other organisations:

  • Eco-reps volunteer their time to come up with ideas to make the school more sustainable or run the second-hand clothes sale.
  • Members of the Student Council give their time to arrange charity events within the school, such as the Christmas Cake Stall.
  • Sixth Form students volunteer with Ms Cebrián’s volunteer programme in the local community, spending an afternoon in the elderly care home in Puçol or supporting disadvantaged students in a homework club.
  • Many students from Year 10 to Year 12 help in the Primary school by supporting students in clubs or on the playground at break time.

Year 12 students run a games room at lunch time where younger students can go and spend their lunchtimes.

How to Get Involved

Volunteering is easy to start! There is always something going on and some way you can help. For example, you can volunteer your time to bake cakes for the Christmas cake sale in December! If you’re passionate about a specific cause, you can always start a volunteer project of your own.

Volunteering is one of the most rewarding ways to give back to the community and grow as an individual. Whether you’re helping your classmates, supporting a local charity, or organising school events, your involvement makes a lasting difference. So, why not take the first step today?
