University Is Everything I Dreamed Of

Our student Irina Paredes graduated this past academic year and has started her university studies at Trinity College Dublin, an academic environment with centuries of history and research excellence, where she is studying a degree in the innovative area of Human Health and Disease.

Why did you choose this degree and what would you like to do professionally?

I have always been deeply fascinated by the human body, especially the way all its microscopic components unite in harmony to create life. In recent years, this curiosity has expanded towards defects in the body, and how they ultimately culminate in disease. This sparked my interest in finding revolutionary cures for these pathologies, using my knowledge of biology to hopefully, in the future, improve the course of humanity. This is why I would like to work in scientific research into disease, focusing on clinical trials, which will allow me to continue to stay in touch with the essential human component, which for me is the most rewarding part. The innovative Human Health and Disease degree, offered by Trinity College Dublin, provides me with an incredible opportunity to achieve my aspirations.

Can you briefly tell us what the admissions process was like?

It was certainly tedious and exhausting; I had so many doubts and uncertainties about my abilities. However, it was my unwavering sense of sacrifice and perseverance that forced me to continue day after day with the systems and goals I had set for myself, managing to exceed my expectations by obtaining one of the few places offered after successfully navigating the rigorous admissions process.

What has your experience been like in the first few weeks at university?

The university is everything I had dreamed of. I find it incredible to have come so far into such an enriching environment, overflowing with opportunities and paths to take. The number of people who share my same fascinations is amazing. I am truly enthusiastic about continuing my education at such a prestigious institution, guided by professors dedicated to my passion: scientific research.

What do you value most about the education you received at Caxton College and what do you think most helped you gain a place in this degree programme at such a prestigious university?

Studying at Caxton College allowed me to reach an excellent level of English, which was fundamental for me to be able to pursue my studies abroad. Furthermore, the effort and support provided by some of my teachers, who offered additional resources and were always making themselves available to answer my questions, was essential for me to reach my maximum potential.

A final thought?

I would like future students to know that, despite the effort required, they should not be disheartened by the difficulties of studying abroad and that they can achieve their aspirations. Because through consistency and sacrifice, I have found that dreams really do come true.
