Pedalling for a Charitable Purpose

By Jose Leal, Coordinator of Caxton College Competition Football and Swimming in Puçol

From 2 to 8 April, seven friends and I embarked on an epic journey: cycling from the Hospital de la Fe in Valencia all the way to the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral to raise vital funds for the hospital’s Paediatric Oncology Unit, specifically supporting the "Survivor’s Passport" (Pasaporte del Superviviente) initiative.

This research project focuses on improving the long-term quality of life for children who have successfully beaten cancer, ensuring they have the support and monitoring needed for a healthy future.

The challenge in numbers:

  • Distance: More than 1,000 kilometres
  • Duration: 7 days of extreme effort
  • Intensity: An average of 150 km per day
  • The Route: Passing through Teruel, Zaragoza, Soria, Burgos, and León

Whilst the physical toll was immense, the breathtaking landscapes of the Camino de Santiago and the encouragement from fellow pilgrims made it an unforgettable experience. Our arrival at the Plaza del Obradoiro was an emotional and exciting conclusion to so many hours of hard work for a noble cause.

If you’d like to collaborate, donations are being collected until the end of April, and all proceeds will be presented to the hospital in May. Follow us on Instagram to see our journey and find out how to donate: @rodandoporlospeques
