As a new academic year begins, our school community proudly celebrates the achievements of our recent graduates as they embark on higher education journeys across the UK, Spain, and other countries.
Our former students showcase how a broad, rigorous education fosters both academic excellence and personal confidence. Sasha Ú-P, now reading International and European Law at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, noted: “When I first started my A Levels I wasn’t sure what path I wanted to take, but as time went on, I realised the skills I was developing – analysing texts, referring back to history, and exploring societal structures – perfectly matched International Law…. My school environment fostered self-belief, especially during my A Levels as I grew more independent and assertive.”
Jack W chose an interdisciplinary combination of A Levels, studying Maths, Physics, and History at A Level before choosing his degree in Law at the University of Manchester. From his experience at Caxton College, he highlighted “having teachers who made learning genuinely interesting and encouraged curiosity beyond just getting good grades, which made me more open to exploring different areas and helped me get used to different ways of thinking. That broad academic environment played a big part in shaping what I wanted to study, and eventually led me towards Law because it felt like a subject that would let me keep developing in more than one direction.”
Our students also excel in STEM disciplines, going on to different technical fields. Maggie W achieved four A* grades in her A Levels and is studying Engineering at Christ’s College, University of Cambridge, attributing her success to the “synergy between the contents of these subjects in both calculation and explanation that leads to the logical conclusion of engineering, which in the end boils down to playing around with how you can make the very theoretical stuff a bit more accessible.” Maggie recognises the range of subjects she studied led her to a general engineering degree that will allow her to gain an understanding of different fields to make an informed decision for areas of specialisation.
Miko Y, who has chosen to pursue an MSci in Physics at Imperial College London, reasons that his decision stemmed from the fact that “when I study physics, I’m rarely satisfied with just remembering a formula or getting a question right. I care more about why a concept works and under what conditions it works…. Compared with engineering, I feel that my strengths are more in learning and understanding theory than in applying knowledge directly to specific designs. Physics trains core skills quite strongly, while also giving me a broad foundation and more flexibility in what I can do later.”
Meanwhile, Rebeca M successfully navigated the system for admission to Spanish university, achieving all A and A* grades in her A Levels and high marks in her PCE exams for a score of 13.40 (out of 14), allowing her to gain a place in the integrated master’s programme (PARS) in Aeronautical Engineering at the UPV. Rebeca says that “career guidance talks were a turning point for me—they opened my eyes to the Aerospace field and directly inspired my decision to pursue an integrated Master’s in Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering at UPV. Thanks to Caxton I am starting out at my dream career full of confidence and excitement for what’s to come.”
In addition to the general careers guidance provided, students also credited the support they received from the school’s dedicated UCAS and international university guidance team, who give advice regarding personal statements and interviewing, as key to their successful university admissions process.
