In education, the future is not something to be waited for; it is built and led. After months of intensive collaborative work between the School Executive Team, the IT team, and the academic coordinators, I am delighted to share that Caxton College now has its own Artificial Intelligence Policy Framework. This is not just about implementing technology, but about leading a cultural change that ensures an ethical, critical, and creative use of AI in our classrooms. As Deputy Director of Education, participating in the design of this roadmap has been a fascinating journey towards preparing our students for the world. This initiative, which enumerates clear criteria to follow, ensures that our staff and students do not just use technology but master it ethically and effectively.

The three fundamental pillars of our framework:

• Students come first: AI will never replace the vital relationship between teacher and student. Our staff remain the primary mentors and guides.
• Transparency and privacy: We follow GDPR standards strictly, using only secure and approved tools to protect your children’s data.
• The essence of learning: We encourage students to focus on deep analysis, creativity, and problem-solving, thereby promoting their critical thinking.

AI Traffic Light for Secondary: Clarity and Honesty in Every Task

To provide clear guidance on the use of AI in the classroom, assignments will now be labelled as "AI Allowed" or "AI Prohibited". This indicates to students when they may brainstorm with a digital assistant and when they must rely exclusively on their own cognitive ability. When AI is used, it must be properly cited.

Families: Strategic Allies of the School

This adoption framework does not end at our classroom doors. It is fundamental that families are our indispensable allies on this journey. Your role is not that of a technological expert, but that of an ethical guide who, at home, reinforces the value of personal effort and critical curiosity. Together, we are teaching our students not only to use a tool, but to master the language of the future with integrity.
